How
to change the filter in a vehicle with fuel injection?
In fuel injection vehicles, it is necessary to deactivate the fuel pump to relieve the pressure in the fuel lines, which can be fixed to the filter with clamps, threaded connections or special connections of rapid connection.
If doing this uncommon job requires the purchase of special tools, it is probably cheaper to do it for a technician. If not, the first thing to do is find the filter. Your owner's manual must show you where your fuel filter is and if there is more than one in your vehicle.
If your engine has fuel injection, its fuel filter is located somewhere in the high pressure fuel line, either under the vehicle near the fuel tank as shown here:
some vehicles also have a fuel filter in the fuel pump, as well as a filter rack inside the fuel tank. If they are blocked, only a professional should take care of them.
Here are some instructions to change a fuel filter. Before starting, read them carefully and make sure you want to do this job yourself:
1. Relieve the pressure on the fuel line before disconnecting it. To do this, you must deactivate the electric fuel pump before starting the engine.
To deactivate the fuel pump, do the following:
with the engine off, remove the fuse of the fuel box from the fuse box.
Make sure the parking brake is activated and that the vehicle is in a parking or neutral position and then start the engine. It will not work long after it turns it on, but the pressure in the fuel lines will be reduced.
Turn off the engine. With the fuel pump deactivated, it is ready to disconnect the fuel lines from the filter.
2. Look at the old and new filter before disconnecting anything:
I should see a stamped arrow in both filters that shows in which direction the fuel flows through them. If the new one does not have an arrow, look to see in which direction the old filter is installed, so I can know at what end of the new filter each one goes.
3. Remove whatever you are holding the old filter instead and check it out.
4. Place the new filter in the same position as the old filter.
5. Replace whatever keep the filter in place and make sure you are very subject.
6. Replace the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box:
Make sure the parking brake is activated and that the vehicle is in a parking or neutral position and then start the engine and check if there are leaks around the filter.
