Thermostat problems ... I think ... published by manual-mecanica
Hello:
Well, I have a doubt with the functioning of the thermostat.
Peugeot Boxer Diesel 1.9 (Idem Motor to Peugeot 405)
apparently opens from 100 or 110 degrees until temp. Low to 90 degrees.
Another issue is that when driving on the highway more than 100 km/h begins to climb the temp. quite .
It is possible that the thermostat does not open or close in its entirety and thus let only some refrigerant pass?

Greetings

Eduardo

I think that from the expanding boat you can see how the refrigerant fluid recirculates, to see if the thermostat works to you, it is worth leaving the car in progress and waiting for the fan to save you at the temperature at which it reveals to do it, look at the color of the anticonjelant, if this rusty red will be the radiator, in short, I hope it is not much.

I have a renault 19 1.4 driver and something similar happened to him, but like what happens to you. I consulted it with a friend and told me that it could be for different reasons.

One of them is that the thermostat did not open completely or that it did it slowly, apart from others ...

well, what I did at first is to remove the thermostat and started rolling with the car. Two things passed; 1st The car did not heat so much, when a slope climbed. 2nd The car did not reach the minimum temperature, it cooled too much when it went down on a pronounced slope.
That's why I thought it was the thermostat. This friend told me that if I checked how the old thermostat and the new one putting it into a saucepan with the water to boil, I would see how it worked.

The old thermostat did not open, the new one totally, closing slowly as the water cooled.

All the best.

I think the same as the companions, it can be the broken thermostat or the dirty radiator inside (oxide) or out (mud).

A thermostat never opens at 100ºC, (not to be confused with the electro -ventilator thermocontact). They usually start opening from 82ºC to 88ºC and have a complete opening around 90ºC to 94ºC.

The hush with hot water is the best system to try a thermostat, the thermostat has to open before it starts to cook, if you take it out of the saucepan and put it in cold water, closes suddenly, symptom that it is not grabbed.

The R19 1.4 is normal considering that you were without thermostat. People are wrong to go without thermostat is good because \ "heated less \", once the engine takes temperature, the thermostat opens and gives the radiator free.

However, the thermostat is very important in the engine heating function, because as a key was able to check, the engine does not reach its operating temperature when it does not \ "strip" of the car and that translates into an increase in fuel consumption, in an increase in wear, loss of thermal performance due to the transfer of temperature in cylinders, coals in butts and pistons, too high viscosity of the oil ... etc.

In short, the thermostat serves something, it is not as an ornament.

All the best.

What I did was replace the entire refrigerant liqyuido, with another of better quality.
On the other hand, change the electro -ventilator sensor, this action at 82 °.
Because of the first tests I noticed, it was that the temperature is maintained at 90 ° and it seems that everything works better, because the electro begins to turn before the other sensor (it was of greater temp.).
Now the question is, it may be that the thermostat takes to open and thus the temperature rises more than the account until then opens and let the refrigeration liquid pass, fall to 85 °
or it may also be that partially open, and let little liquid pass?, Because at the speed or demand of force lifts the temp.

Thanks for the answers megabeat_1, emeralda, keyfija:)
